Cheap laptop deal of the week

Cheap laptop deals under £200

Asus Chromebook C223NA 11.6-inch Chromebook: £229.99 £169.99 at Amazon
This entry level Asus Chromebook has just dropped below £170 at Amazon, which means you can pick up a super cheap laptop for just £169 right now. With 4GB RAM and 32GB of onboard storage you're not picking up a super powerful machine here, but that Intel Celeron N3350 processor and the Chrome operating system will still offer a streamlined everyday experience.

Asus Vivobook 14-inch laptop: £249.99 £198.99 at Amazon
We rarely see Windows laptops offering larger 14-inch displays this cheap, but this Asus Vivobook at £198.99 is looking particularly strong this week. You're getting an Intel Celeron N4020 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage here as well, great specs at this price point.

Acer 514 14-inch Chromebook: £229 £199 at Currys
You can save £30 on this Acer 514 Chromebook, bringing it down to a fantastic £199 price tag. That's particularly exciting because you're getting a full 14-inch display here - a rarity in this sub-£200 range where we usually only find 11.6-inch screens.

Cheap laptop deals from £200 to £300

HP Stream 11.6-inch laptop: £249 £219 at Currys
The HP Stream is an excellent cheap laptop for everyday browsing, though note that 11.6-inch display may be limiting for much more than surfing the web. With an Intel Celeron N4020 processor you're getting plenty of power for the price, though, and 4GB RAM / 64GB of storage will be able to keep up with you as well.

Asus 15.6-inch Chromebook: £299.99 £229 at Amazon
We rarely see full sized 15.6-inch devices reaching this close to £200, which means you're getting a fantastic deal on this super slim Asus Chromebook. With an Intel Celeron N3350 processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage you're getting strong specs at this price as well.

HP 14-inch Chromebook: £279 £249 at Currys
You're saving £30 on this already cheap 14-inch HP Chromebook at Currys, and upping your processing power with an Intel Celeron N4020 as well. You'll still find 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage inside, but with an excellent 13 hour battery life tacked on too.

Cheap laptop deals from £300 to £400

Asus X515 15.6-inch laptop: £329.99 at Argos
Stock is running low on this Asus 15.6-inch laptop, but if your local Argos has stock we'd recommend taking a look. That massive 1TB hard drive is excellent value for money at this price point, and it's still paired with 8GB of RAM where the cost could easily have only called for 4GB.

Lenovo V14 14-inch laptop: £399 £349.97 at Laptops Direct
This is a great price for an 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD machine, even if you are sacrificing a little processing power with the AMD Athlon Gold 3150U. This configuration is perfect for those looking for more storage and memory power than they would normally find in the £300 price range, though.

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i 13.3-inch 2-in-1 Chromebook: £429 £399 at Currys
Premium Chromebooks like this one can often still only offer 64GB of storage space, due to the fact that Chrome OS requires so little room to work. However, this cheap Lenovo IdeaPad is providing a 128GB SSD which is excellent value for money. Not only that, but the 2-in-1 design here is also a premium feature, so this £30 discount is working particularly hard for you this week.

Cheap laptop deals between £400 and £600

Acer Swift 1 14-inch laptop: £449 £429 at Very
If you're looking for speedy storage on a budget, this Acer Swift 1 is looking particularly enticing. You're sacrificing a little performance, with only 4GB RAM, but still getting a nice Intel Pentium N6000 processor to keep things running. The star of the show here, though, is that 256GB of SSD storage.

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i 13.3-inch 2-in-1 Chromebook: £649 £449 at Currys
You're saving £200 on this flexible and powerful Lenovo Chromebook this week, with the Flex 5i dropping all the way down to £449. There's powerful specs for a Chromebook in here as well, with a 10th generation i5 processor, 8GB RAM and a 128GB SSD. Considering Chrome OS does a lot of the heavy lifting here, that's a strong spec sheet.

Asus Vivobook M413IA 14-inch laptop: £569 £499.97 at Laptops Direct
The £90 price cut on this Asus Vivobook laptop deal yields a sub-£500 price tag here. That's particularly impressive considering there's 512GB of SSD storage tucked away inside this slimline 14-inch machine. 8GB RAM and a Ryzen 5 processor are decent specs at this price point as well.

Asus Vivobook 15.6-inch laptop: £599.99 £549.99 at Amazon
This Asus Vivobook is kitting you out with a 512GB SSD for a great price right now. That £50 discount is the first saving we've ever seen on this model from Amazon, which means you're getting the 15.6-inch, Ryzen 5 device for a great price.

Acer Aspire 5 15.6-inch laptop: £679 £549 at Very
This Acer Aspire 5 manages to squeeze a powerful 11th generation i5 processor and 512GB of SSD storage space into a £550 price tag this week. With Norton 360 included and a full HD IPS display that's great value.

Asus Vivobook 14-inch laptop: £649.99 £579.99 at Currys
Head over to Currys and you'll find this 14-inch Asus Vivobook sporting not only a 512GB SSD and 8GB RAM (great specs for this price) but also 32GB of Intel Optane memory. That means you'll be blitzing through your everyday workflow at an excellent price.

Asus Vivobook 14-inch laptop: £699.99 £599.97 at Amazon
It's not easy to pack 16GB RAM, a 512GB SSD and the latest 11th generation i5 processor into a sub-£600 price tag but a £100 discount at Amazon is doing just that. You're dropping down on screen size here a little, to 14-inches, but if you're after a more portable machine that's perfect.

Cheap laptops: what to look out for

Cheap laptops can often lure shoppers in with a sub-£200 price tag, but unless you're picking up a Chromebook you're unlikely to get your money's worth with these particular models. Chromebooks largely run on Chrome OS, which means they rely less on more expensive components and more on cloud-based services provided by Google Chrome. That means you'll regularly find cheap laptops under £200 that are well worth your cash - provided they were built with this functioning in mind.

These kinds of budget laptops are regularly found on sale, but every now and then we do spot savings that offer mid-range specs for entry level prices.

It's worth looking out for cheap laptop deals that offer a Windows 10 operating system, but only 16 or 32GB of storage space. You'll likely speed through those gigabites faster than you'd think, and storing those hefty Windows 10 updates often presents a new challenge in its own right. That means the smallest we would recommend on this page is a 64GB hard drive if you're running a Windows 10 or 10s operating system.

Cheap laptops can also come with the caveat that they don't offer an operating system at all. These FreeDOS laptops can sometimes be appealing (and if you're up for installing your own copy of Windows or Linux, they often deserve to be), but it's important to check that spec and low price before you buy. We do feature the odd freeDOS budget laptop on this roundup, as they can prove cost effective, but we'll make sure you know when we do.
